A Solo Presentation of Paintings by Spanish Artist Mai Blanco – Jardin Adentro
For her first institutional exhibition, the artist has created a site-specific body of work specifically for the foundation.
Mai Blanco’s Artistic Exploration of Nature and Femininity
Mai Blanco’s work centers around self-portraits that explore the search for meaning, often traversing the intricate paths of nature. In the natural world, she finds an endless source of primordial beauty, creating a deep connection with the transcendental. This relationship inspires a joyful celebration of life, embracing simplicity and authenticity. For Mai, the very act of being and existing in this world is inherently transcendent.
Her linework flows with exceptional fluidity, effortlessly capturing the sensuality of the female form while also alluding to the strength and prowess of the mythological female warriors known as Amazons in classical culture. Her color palette, soft yet vibrant, gently reminds us that amid strength and independence, her characters retain the inherent grace of femininity.
La Nave Salinas: From Post-War Warehouse to Art Haven
Originally constructed in 1941, La Nave Salinas was designed to provide employment opportunities during the Spanish post-war period. The initial purpose was to create a warehouse for storing salt in Ibiza. However, the building remained unused until 2015 when Lio Malca discovered it and saw its potential.
Lio Malca transformed La Nave Salinas into a vibrant space dedicated to art exhibitions. Since then, its mission has been to bring Contemporary Art closer to the community, showcasing pieces from Lio Malca’s personal collection.
Experience Mai Blanco’s Jardin Adentro this summer at Fundacion La Nave Salinas from Wednesday to Sunday, 12pm – 8pm until October 31, 2024
